SportConnect Rankings: Your Private Padel League

You and your padel crew play every week. Wouldn't it be good to know who's actually on top? SportConnect Rankings lets you run a private league for your circle — friends, club regulars, or a tournament crew — with a live leaderboard that updates after every match.

Your League, Your Rules

Every league starts with a name, an optional description, and an optional location. It's private by default — only people you invite can see it. You're the owner, and you can promote other members to admin if you want help managing things.

Inviting Players

Search for players by username, name, or email. You can also copy an invite link and send it over WhatsApp, iMessage, or wherever your group chats. Before signing up, recipients can preview the league so they know what they're joining. Members can leave at any time, and you can remove anyone as the owner.

Logging Matches

Every match is doubles: 4 players, pair A vs pair B. When you log a match, you enter the final score. You can also add per-set scores if you want the detail. A few more options make the log accurate and flexible:

  • Tag the club where you played
  • Backdate matches you forgot to log at the time
  • Edit a match if you entered the score wrong
  • Void a match if it shouldn't count

Every change is tracked, so the league stays honest. And when you edit or void a match, the entire leaderboard recalculates automatically.

The Leaderboard

The leaderboard sorts live by rating. Each player has their own stats card showing rating, matches played, wins, losses, and current rank. The league view has three tabs:

  • Profile — your personal stats
  • Players — the full leaderboard
  • Matches — the full match history

Try It First: The Demo League

If you're new to SportConnect, you land inside a demo league called Club Example the moment you open Rankings. Log a fake match, pick 4 players, enter a score, and watch the leaderboard re-sort. Nothing is saved on the server until you create your own league. It's the whole product in one tap.

Available Everywhere

Rankings works on the web and on the mobile app. The platform is available in English, Spanish, and French.

How to Get Started — Step by Step

  1. Open Rankings from the bottom nav (trophy icon). First time? You're inside the demo league.
  2. Try the demo. Tap "Log a match", pick 4 players, enter a score. The leaderboard re-sorts. That's the whole product in one tap.
  3. Create your league. Tap the header and select "Create". Name it, add a location if you want.
  4. Invite players. Search by name or email, copy the invite link, send it on WhatsApp or wherever.
  5. They accept. They open the link, sign up or log in, and tap Accept. They start at 1000 points.
  6. Log your first match. Pick pair A and pair B, enter the score, optionally tag the club, and submit.
  7. Watch the ratings move. Winners go up, losers go down. The leaderboard updates instantly.
  8. Made a typo? Open the match and tap Edit or Void. The whole leaderboard recalculates automatically.

How the Rating Works

Every player starts at 1000 points. After each match, points move from the losing pair to the winning pair. How many points move depends on who was expected to win:

  • Favourites win → small point swing (everyone saw it coming)
  • Underdogs win → big point swing (an upset earns a bigger reward)

Each player on the winning team gains the same number of points. Each player on the losing team loses the same number. You can see exactly how many points you gained or lost on every match card.

The Formula (Team ELO)

Rankings uses a team-ELO system. Here's the math, step by step:

  1. Average each pair's rating:
Ra = average of pair A's two ratings
Rb = average of pair B's two ratings
  2. Calculate pair A's expected win probability:
    Ea = 1 / (1 + 10^((Rb − Ra) / 400))
  3. Calculate the points to move:
    delta = round( 32 × (actual result − Ea) )
    (actual result = 1 if A wins, 0 if B wins)
  4. Apply the delta:
    Each winner: rating + delta
    Each loser: rating − delta

The 32 is the K-factor. It controls how fast ratings move. A higher K-factor means more volatile swings; a lower one means more stable ratings. League owners can tune the K-factor per league.

A Worked Example

Pair A averages 1100 points. Pair B averages 900 points. Pair A is heavily favoured.

  • Ea ≈ 0.76 (pair A is expected to win 76% of the time)
  • If pair A wins: delta = round(32 × (1 − 0.76)) = +8 points each
  • If pair B wins (upset!): delta = round(32 × (0 − 0.76)) = −24 points for pair A, +24 points for pair B

The same formula runs on every match, in every league.

Open Rankings in the SportConnect app and try the demo league today. Your first real match is one invite link away.
